We had a beautiful full moon tonight and it was the ultimate challenge for my Opteka 500mm lens. Well, I have to say that I’m a little bit disappointed, but oh well, I kinda expected the result. This is taken with the 2x teleconverter on tho, which makes the quality even worse. At least I can see that it is the moon 🙂
The dog is loose
I was a bit bored yesterday and figured I could look for good photo opportunities around the house. The backyard was full of geckos being chased by our dogs so I tried shooting that but nothing came out the way wanted it to. I got a nice shot of one of the dogs tho 🙂
Life isn’t always black and white….
but sometimes it looks pretty good that way 🙂
Learning in progress
After spending an entire day at the beach with the Waikiki Beach Boys Canoe Club paddling and taking pictures, I realized that I still have a long way to go. Taking interesting action pictures is hard, especially when the equipment isn’t up to par. I definitely need a new tripod! I ended up with about 650 shots and i really put my Opteka 500mm lens to the test. Verdict: you get what you pay for 🙂
I captured a few good moments and a lot of paddlers in action tho… You can see some of them below.
HDR – Photography version 2.0
So I figured out that i wanted to play around with some High Dynamic Range pictures. I needed some raw materials and headed towards Waikiki with my camera, and my not-so-up-to-par tripod to take some shots. I’ve always wanted to get some good shots of Waikiki’s skyline but never really looked for a good place to shoot it from until today.
So here is the result from that first (or should I say 5) try.
I played around with the settings and figured out that this surrealistic result was what best represented Waikiki today.
My second victime was a tree I was standing next to when I shot the above Waikiki picture. The result… well you decide.
I may have over-saturated it a bit, but given the light outside it looks 100% better than the real deal, and it is still kinda the real deal.
After listening to my friends nag about me not having a blog where I could post my pictures and show what I do, I finally got around to creating one.
I think I will keep my writing to a minimum and let my pictures do the talking. That’s how I like it.
So what do I shoot with?
Many people wonder what I shoot my pictures with?
I have Nikon D300 camera and a couple of lenses. Due to a tight student budget the collection is not where I want it yet, but I’m slowly getting there….
My main lens is a Sigma 18-200mm f3.5-6.3, but i also have a Sigma 70-300mm f4-5.6.
A couple of years ago i bought an Opteka 500mm telephoto lens. Not the best lens out there but in the right light conditions and with a good tripod it produces some fairly decent pictures.
In addition I always carry around my Pentax W90 waterproof point and shoot just for those moments I can’t miss, and it’s always nice to have a waterproof camera.
I also have a Nikon Speedlight SB 900.
I also have a Nikkor 35mm f1.8 and a Nikkor 50mm f1.4
